New PSDS of Cluster 9 from PCSHS, Dr. Basilisa D. Tomimbang

New PSDS of Cluster 9 from PCSHS, Dr. Basilisa D. Tomimbang New PSDS of Cluster 9 from PCSHS, Dr. Basilisa D. Tomimbang JONALYN R. SUZARA Teacher III   Previous Next  “The only dreams that come true are the ones you chase, if you do nothing, you get nothing”                                                                                                                                                  Joseph Atser No dream is unattainable for someone who has the desire and determination to pursue and achieve her goals. Our colleague Dr. Basilisa D Tomimbang, the newly installed Public Schools District Supervisor of the Division of Pasay, is the best example of this. Dr. Basilisa D Tomimbang is a Cumlaude graduate of Pangasinan State University with a degree of Bachelor in Secondary Education major in MAPEH in 1984. She started in private school as a classroom teacher in Sacred Heart School in Paranaque from 1985 to 1989. She then moved to South Merville School Inc as Level Head from 1989 to 1993. In 1993, she began her teaching career in Pasay City South High School as Teacher I. She was promoted to Teacher II in 2006 and Teacher III in 2015. In the same year 2015, she was advanced to Master Teacher I and became Master Teacher II in less than three years.  In between those years, she was able to finish a Certificate of Teaching Program in Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in General Science at Philippine Normal University under a scholarship program. She also finished her Master of Arts in Education in 2012 which made her qualified for a Master Teacher position which she got when it was opened for ranking. She was named chairman of the School-Based Management (SBM) committee as a Master teacher, a technique to enhance by moving considerable decision-making authority from the state to the district to the local school. It gives the principal, teachers, students, and parents influence over the educational process by involving them to make decisions about the school’s activities and projects. She was in charge of the data gathering and preparation for the validation of the four SBM levels of practice principles. Leadership and Governance, Curriculum and Learning, Accountability and Continuous Improvement, and Resource Management are all included in the level of Practice. The school met all of the requirements for level 3 because of the tireless work of committees involved in the collection and production of documents as means of verification, chaired by Dr. Basilisa D Tomimbang and with the support and guidance of our principal Mrs. Emilia L Tolentino. One more challenging task assigned to her is the Grade 7 ICT teacher. She has worked with Mrs. Wilma V. Amores, head of the Filipino department, and Mr. Dominador SV Torio, head of the TLE department. She was in charge of the reports on data reporting of Grade 7 learners. She had helped in mentoring and coaching her colleagues in the science department as the master teacher in the department. She was assigned to observe, coach, and mentor six science teachers, the Earth and Space group, and the Force, Matter, and Energy group. Despite all the tasks assigned to her and being a Master teacher, she managed to enroll in a Doctorate Program. She graduated recently and earned her degree as a Doctor of Philosophy. It was timely that right after she received her diploma in Doctoral of Philosophy, the item for the PSDS position in SDO Pasay was opened which she took the advantage to apply. Out of the 13 applicants from the different schools of SDO Pasay and from other divisions, she ranked third which made her obtain the position. She was installed as PSDS last January 26, 2022 and eventually designated as the PSDS of Cluster 9 composed of three schools, namely: Pasay City North High School – Tramo Campus, Pasay City West  High School and Pasay City National Science High School. She assumed her new position immediately after a virtual send-off program. From being a Master teacher and classroom teacher dealing with learners she will now perform the following duties and responsibilities of a PSDS such as Instructional Supervision, Technical Assistance in School Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Curriculum Development, Enrichment and Localization, Learning Outcomes and Assessments, Research and Technical Assistance to schools assigned to her. Indeed, success comes to those who set goals and dreams, are courageous to work hard for them, and persevere to achieve and realize that dreams come true no matter what age and status in life.            “All dreams can come true If you have the courage to pursue them” – Walt Disney

Project STEM Up Year 3 and SiLAW Clinch 2022 SDO-Pasay’s School’s Best Practices Award Project STEM Up Year 3 and SiLAW Clinch 2022 SDO-Pasay’s School’s Best Practices Award Writer: Mary Ann E. Garcia Editor: Clarinda Mendoza Previous Next                 Not resting on its laurels, Pasay City South High School’s Project STEM Up Year 3 and Project SiLAW (Simplified Learners’ Activity Worksheet) were hailed as among Pasay-SDO’s 2022 School’s Best Practices and Exemplary Schools Monitoring, Evaluation and Adjustment (SMEA) Team, respectively.             Project STEM Up Year 3 is an institutionalized Partnership between Pasay City South High School, Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and Telstra Foundation Philippines (TFP) that aims to develop the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students’ inclination toward research and innovations through year-round trainings, benchmarking, project funding and culminating activities. On the other hand, Project SiLAW is the school’s intervention as well as compassionate response to the learner’s clamor for modules of reasonable length and activities that are home-based. The compressed worksheets have been crafted based on the MELC’s and have undergone multiple screenings to establish  their validity and reliability. Having been subjected to a grueling month-long evaluation by the SDO-Pasay’s SMEA Team headed by Dr. Arturo A. Tolentino (OIC- Assistant Schools Division Superintendent), Mrs. Flerida S. Pajarillaga (Senior Education program Specialist), and Ms. Fatima P. Fajardo (Education Program Specialist II), these projects were found to have significantly improved the PCSHS’ Key Performance Indicators and have brought about innumerable benefits to the stakeholders.             The said projects were spearheaded by Mrs. Emilia L. Tolentino (Principal IV), Dr. Mark Anthony F. Familaran (Assistant Principal II) along with the focal persons, Mrs. Editha F. Alimbuyuguen (MTII/ Subject Group Head-STEM), Mrs. Ma. Elma V. PCSHS Raises the Bar in the Conduct of Semestral Virtual In-Service Training (V-INSET) Program through the Full Utilization of MS Teams

PCSHS Raises the Bar in the Conduct of Semestral Virtual In-Service Training (V-INSET) Program through the Full Utilization of MS Teams Previous Next PCSHS Raises the Bar in the Conduct of Semestral Virtual In-Service    Training (V-INSET) Program through the Full Utilization of MS Teams By: Magdalena P. Jerez, T-III Chemistry Teacher, PCSHS Co-Chair, PCSHS VINSET 2021             Pasay City South High School (PCSHS) has recognized the importance of Midyear Semestral Break Virtual In-service training for Teachers as included in DepEd Order (DO) No. 29, s. 2021, otherwise known as the School Calendar and Activities for School year 2021-2022. In view of this, the Pasay City South High School conducted the Semestral Virtual In-Service Training (V-INSET) last January 31, 2022, and February 2-4, 2022, with the theme “Achieving Greater Heights through Academic Resilience”.          Despite the adverse effect of the outbreak of COVID-19 in the educational system for almost two years now, Pasay City South High School under the dynamic leadership of its school head, Mrs. Emilia L. Tolentino, with the full support and aid of Dr. Mark Anthony F. Familaran, the assistant principal; the JHS Department Heads; and SHS Subject Group Heads, has been trying to put its foot forward to continue its delivery of quality basic education. This includes the upskilling and re-skilling of teachers in this fast-changing time in the so-called new normal. To keep teachers abreast with the changing times and to ensure quality education, Virtual In-service Trainings are conducted regularly. In-Service Training has long been regarded as critical to teachers’ ability to maintain and retain their capacity to provide high-quality teaching in a classroom setup. Moreover, it provides activities and practices which hone teachers’ skills needed in the new normal. It is also said that investing in effective teaching approaches is the key to address the learning crisis (Newman & Gentile, 2020).           The PCSHS mid-year break Virtual In-Service Training for Teachers (V-INSET) 2021 had made use of Microsoft Teams as the platform in the conduct of its 4-day Virtual INSET. The use of Microsoft Teams as a platform was maximized in this activity as DepEd has encouraged all schools to take advantage of this platform which it has provided for free.           The attendance in the 4-Day V-INSET was considered outstanding as reported by Mr. Jerwin Salazar, the e-QATAME coordinator. According to Mr. Salazar, based on the gathered submitted attendance report, the V-INSET was consistently attended and participated in by almost 100% of the faculty members and school administrators. It was also noted that the participants were always excited to attend the day-to-day training as manifested in their early logged-in.  .          Relevant topics were lined-up for the 4-day training which started with  the Reorientation on Unified Integrative Performance Assessment Tool (UNIPEAT)   by Dr. Ramil P. Dorol, EPS of TLE, EPP, and TVL. It was followed by the topic about the Purposes of Assessment and Assessment Planning, which was discussed by yours truly, Magdalena P. Jerez, a Chemistry teacher. The assessment was mentioned to be an integral part of the teaching-learning process that must be taken seriously to help the students achieve the learning outcomes expected of them. School Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (SDRRMC) related issues and concerns was tackled by   Mr. Jimark O. Somogod, the SDRRMC Coordinator on the Day 2. This topic is very relevant to all the participants since calamities and disasters can happen anytime and anywhere. The second topic of the day was about WinS-Interventions & Minimum Health Standards in the Context of Covid-19 Pandemic, which was presented and discussed by our school nurse, Ms. Jocel Amin. She discussed the school health standards during the pandemic and further emphasized the importance of following health standards, especially this time of the pandemic. The last activity set for Day 3 was the Breakaway Session in which the JHS Departments and SHS Groups were given the choice of the topic of their own to discuss. Mrs. Tolentino and Dr. Famillaran had both expressed their satisfaction in what they had observed during the breakaway sessions and had commended both the speakers and the department heads for the job well done.        The third day of the V-INSET was another day full of learnings that can be applied both personally and at work by the teachers.   A topic on Financial Awareness was discussed by a financial adviser from BDO Life. His knowledge and expertise on the subject matter had helped the participants become aware of how to manage their financial resources, especially in these uncertain times. Another important topic discussed on this day was Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). This was discussed by the Program Head of the National Teachers College. The topic was very relevant and very timely to what teachers and learners are experiencing in this time of the pandemic. The speaker had talked about how teachers can be equipped with the knowledge on social-emotional competence and how to integrate this in their classrooms.          During the last day, the participants were honored to have the virtual presence of the new PSDS of Cluster 8, Dr. Renato B. Mesada. The newly designated PSDS had an hour-long talk inspiring all the participants. He had shared his experiences as a teacher and as an administrator which somehow inspired the teachers to excel in their field as educators with a compassionate heart. After the inspirational talk of Dr. Mesada, another relevant topic was discussed by Mr. Jerwin A. Marcelo who had discussed and conducted at the same time virtual training on the Utilization of Mobile Apps in creating video lessons. The topic is indeed very relevant in this blended learning modality that we have. The participants had shown interest in the topic and had already started editing pictures that can be translated into creating their own video lessons to be used in their online classes.           The first part of the last day ended with the Principal’s Hour. Mrs. Emily L. Tolentino, the dynamic and transformational school leader of PCSHS had started her talk with the usual “kumustahan” continue reading : PCSHS Raises the Bar in the Conduct of Semestral Virtual In-Service Training (V-INSET) Program through the Full Utilization of MS Teams
